news 30.04.2012 Gas and steam! |
| |
| The supervisory board and the board of directors of Stadtwerke Bonn, SWB Energie und Wasser, have decided to make large-scale investments in the coming years.
Through modernisation, renovation and expansion works, the heating and power station north, located in Bonn’s Karlstraße, is to be converted into a gas and steam turbine plant.
Our 630 E-CH tower crane has been working on the new build since back in summer 2011, with support being provided by our LR 1600-2 at the end of March 2012.
At this point our assembly team was also required to work up a full head of steam and step on the gas, because it was only possible to set up and disassemble the crane at weekends
due to ongoing operations.
Between the two weekends all of the main components, weighing in at up to 65t, were lifted at a radius of 36m using the S36 W42 equipment.
Peculiarities of the application!
Given that gas lines were also laid in sandy and gravely substrate the decision was made early on to opt for the caterpillar concept, which - in combination with a specially commissioned
concrete foundation - offered the greatest possible load distribution and structural stability.
With the last lifting action of the LR 1600-2, during which the 53m high chimney was set in place, the gas and steam turbine plant came a step closer to its commissioning - scheduled for 2013.

news 05.03.2012 The only one in the world, our Liehberr LTL 1160!!! |
| |
| In 1997 the former Rheinbraun AG – today RWE Power AG – had this 160-t off-road crane designed and built to its specifications by Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH. Although a second device of the same design was planned, it remained a one-off. Since 2003 this device has been in the ownership of our company and is operated by us in opencast mining. In June 2011 the crane was sent to Liebherr-Werke Ehingen GmbH’s Oberhausen factory for almost 10 months for a complete rebuild. Now it is “new” technically and in external appearance and it has gone back into service. At this point we would like once more to thank Liebherr’s Oberhausen Works Manager Mr. Spankowski and his team very much for the perfect rebuild. |

news 03.03.2012 If not through, then over… |
| |
| At the end of February two wind power plants of type 3.4M were erected in Waldgrehweiler by REpower, with a hub height of 128m and a rotor diameter of 104m.
For the erection process, Nolte provided one of their LG 1750 and hired an LR 1600-2 from us.
Transportation of the 51m long “Powerblades” from Bremerhaven to Waldgrehweiler was an almost routine procedure for the specialists from Universal Transport. However, the route through two villages in the final six kilometres did pose a real challenge.
With no alternative to the transport route existing, the project planners decided to lift the rotor blades inside the villages using mobile cranes.
As such two mobile cranes of class 200t to 250t were stationed in Reiffelbach and Gangloff respectively, in order to lift the rotor blades over the houses within the framework of a tandem lifting procedure.
With a carnival atmosphere and a generous supply of coffee, rolls and goulash soup to the transport team by the residents, the last of the six “Powerblades” made its unrestricted way to the construction site.

news 06.09.2011 Coming off the rails. |
| |
Driven by gale-force gusts, an approx. 180 t blending bed stacker jumped off the tracks
at the HKM Duisburg site.
With the undercarriages also seriously affected, the only option was
to salvage the plant machinery using crane vehicles.
Within 3 days, complex lifting structures had been erected and welded onto the stacker,
whilst our LR 1600-2 was simultaneously prepared with the appropriate equipment.
Once our LTM 1350-6.1 had been attached to the jib, both cranes lifted the
approx. 180 t stacker in tandem, and set it down once again on the tracks.
Equipment / load distribution
LR 1600-2, SDBW 42, 24m boom projection, net weight 140t, total load 155t
LTM 1350-6.1, RA, 12m boom projection, net weight 36t, total load 45t

news 27.01.2011 B&W attains an optimal global position in 2010! |
| |
| Within the framework of the annual "IC 50" survey by the trade journal "International Cranes", which determines the largest companies in our industry in the world, B&W has once again made the top spot. We currently occupy third place in the world in the tower crane sector with our fleet of Liebherr tower cranes and associated services. Taking the company’s transitions into account, we have held Liebherr authorised dealer status for tower cranes for over 50 years. In the mobile crane segment and heavy goods logistics we occupy a global 33rd place. In our opinion this result is also highly credible. |

news 15.11.2010 Rebuilding an off-road low-loader |
| |
| It has taken four months to fully rebuild the old Gottwald T45-68 off-road low-loader, originally manufactured in 1991. The low-loader was built at that time specifically for the difficult off-road conditions of the Rheinbraun open-cast mine. Due to the complete rebuild the machine now bears a new serial number and the year of manufacture is now 2010. The “new” machine is able to transport 68 ton loads in its open-cast mining role. In total, four of these off-road low-loaders are operated by our power plant and open-pit logistics department. |

news 30.07.2010 Precision work on Ackerstraße |
| |
Summer holidays mean time for roadworks. For weeks the residents of Ackerstraße in Flingern have been forced to contend with a particularly large set of roadworks: Antenne Düsseldorf listener Susanne Kamp has written a report and taken photos – all about the impressive precision work on Ackerstraße.
From the “Antenne Düsseldorf” listener Susanne Kamp:
It is unbelievable how precisely a huge crane balances the heavy old rusty bridge sections whilst really quietly moving them between the houses, very close by the windows on Ackerstrasse. At the moment there really is a rare sight for the residents on Ackerstrasse. Or more accurately put in the previous piece: The lovingly nicknamed “Little Ackerstrasse”. The old railway bridge is being completely replaced. Until Sunday (25th July 2010) the bridge remained accessible to the tram lines; however from Monday it has been closed to them too. From above it is still possible to look right down onto the lower tracks. It was necessary to build a new bridge because the abutments had rusted fast. This meant that the bridge was no longer able to equalise the vibrations. The dismantling of the original welded bridge – constructed at the start of the last century – which was located beneath the current bridge, was included in this construction work. The preparations for dismantling took a number of months. However the sequence of images show how the actual dismantling work was completed in just a matter of hours.

news 28.07.2010 600 ton crane in Westhafen |
| |
HERRINGEN ▪ It is one of the largest cranes that Hamm-Westhafen has ever seen: Employees of the specialist company Breuer & Wasel from Bergheim are currently assembling a 600 ton caterpillar crane on the Rhenus site on Hafenstraße”, with the expectation that it will go into operation on Saturday morning.
It is then intended to heave the approx. 400 ton heavy reserve transformer – to date stored at the Gerstein power plant belonging to RWE Power AG in Werne-Stockum – onto a pontoon. From Hamm the cargo will proceed to the joint venture power generation plant operated by RWE Power AG and Evonik Steag GmbH in Bergkamen-Heil.
On the 14th July a lightening strike hit the high voltage power line and damaged the generator transformer. The power plant has been at a standstill since then. “Without the transformer the power cannot enter the grid because this device is there to bring the power generated in the power station to the standard voltage of the national grid”; the words of the company.
However, it is first necessary for the transformer to be transported from the Gerstein power plant to Westhafen. “This will take place using the existing infrastructure” explains Manfred Lang, spokesman for RWE Power AG. This will require the use of the rail network and a so-called ‘Schnabel car’. “This is a special type of vehicle that is suitable for the transportation of large and heavy machinery".
The crane itself has been assembled from various individual parts, which were transported by 33 HGVs in accordance with the specifications of Breuer & Wasel. It can reach a height of up to 200 metres. However, the work in Hamm does not require this full height. The main boom measures 42 metres, whilst the jib stay is 36 metres. “We additionally require a counterweight of 360 tons" reports the company.

news 21.05.2010 Bucket wheel replacement no. 2 |
| |
| After the successful bucket wheel replacement in July 2009 at the Hambach mining site, we replaced another bucket wheel at the RWE mining site in Inden on excavator 255.
The new bucket wheel weighing 100 tons was brought in using three mobile cranes, namely a 500-ton Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1, a 350-ton Terex AC 350-1 and a 250-ton Liebherr LTM 1250-6.1. This was truly a “well-rounded” project!

news 18.05.2010 ...we’re also happy to help the competition! |
| |
| Contracted by a competitor in rotating tower canes, we lifted their Liebherr 140 EC-H rotating tower crane onto the roof of the Lufthansa building in Cologne. To do so, we used our 500-ton Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane with 165-ton counterweight and 92-metre lattice jib. This allowed us to successfully carry out the project to our customer’s satisfaction using a jib length of 40 metres and a hook height of 125 metres. |

news 07.05.2010 A new member of the fleet |
| |
| This week, the new Liebherr truck-mounted telescope crane LTF1060-4.1 started its work with us.
A further crane of this type will follow later this month. The 4-axle 60t unit can travel on public roads with its complete ballast on board, ready for immediate action when it reaches the building site. High load capacities and a long telescopic boom make the LTF 1060-4.1 a really persuasive performer.

news 07.05.2010 Restoration of Burg Eltz |
| |
| Most of us know Burg Eltz, at least from pictures – indeed, it once decorated the old 500 DM note. What is special is its position – it sits on a steep rock and whoever sees it thinks: My God, however did they manage to build upon that steep rock back then. In a sense, that is also the current problem, because Burg Eltz is now being renovated and that is certainly not easy, thanks to its location. That is why a crane was erected for this renovation, provided by B&W. In the next 12 months, a Liebherr top-slewing crane 280EC-H 12 Litronic with a hook height of 49 m and a working radius of 70 m will support the renovation work. The installation was carried out by our constructors with the help of our 350t Liebherr mobile crane LTM 1350-6-1, which stood 30 m lower and 45 m away from the position of the top-slewing crane.
Great achievement, great picture…
